What does a critical release mean to WordPress Website owners?

It means the software that runs your website or blog is out of date and needs updating. You have four choices. WordPress Website Owners have four choices:

  1. Check your websites for problems due to conflicts with WordPress themes and plugins as servers automatically install this critical release or
  2. Update the software yourself if you’ve turned off the auto update function. Remember if you do the update yourself, be sure to back up your website before installing the update, test all website functionality and fix the conflicts that arise.
  3. Give yourself peace of mind and hire a webmaster to do a monthly off site back up, watch and install critical updates, run through website — especially critical functionality — and look/resolve conflict glitches in quick order.  Packages start at $30/month.
  4. Ignore this warning and leave yourself vulnerable.
