Celebrate the Durham Savour the Season Launch!

Sue and Anne had a blast at last week’s Savour the Season launch!

AWEBthatWORKS is proud to renew our sponsorship of Durham’s Savour the Season – an annual culinary festival showcasing our local harvest. Savour the Season runs from September 12th to 23rd. Participating restaurants create stunning menus based on fresh local produce and these breath-taking 3-course masterpieces for a seasonal price. Check out the restaurant and menu listings here.

apple crumble next to Savour the Season adThe journey began at Archibald’s Estate Winery, where Fred and Sandy Archibald shared the story of their farm and business. We also tasted some delicious fruit wines that we highly recommend! Archibald’s is a partner/supplier for many restaurants participating in Savour the Season. Oh – and did we mention the scrumptious apple crumble?

Next, we all piled on the Savour bus for a great networking, foodie chat on our way to Pickering’s PORT restaurant. There, we taste-tested a savoury, locally produced PORT meal. We started with artisanal breads and mocktails (the squash, cauliflower, and leek fritters were to die for!). Next followed an exquisite fruit salad, featuring beets, watermelon and goat cheese, and an entree of lamb, sausage, and melt-in-your-mouth local veggies. We finished with a breath-taking plum cake with strawberries. Every course was paired with a delicious Archibald’s wine selection. PORT will be on the menu throughout Savour the Season. Check out their Savour menu here.

sign for Pickering Farmers' MarketStomachs full and spirits high, we climbed back aboard the Savour bus. Next stop: the Pickering Town Centre Farmers’ Market. Open every Tuesday from 12-7pm, the market features offerings from local farmers, including fresh fruits and vegetables, sauces, wines, ciders, breads, pastries, meats and more! You can also find beautiful work from local craftpeople, such as soaps, stoneware, jewellery and artwork. Running in the parking lot of the Pickering Town Centre until October 16th, the market is a great way to spice up menus in your own home. Stop by to pick up some fresh corn, savoury meatpies or sweet fruit wine. We certainly weren’t able to leave empty-handed!

Laden with fresh produce and full tummies, we headed for home to make reservations. Don’t delay in booking your own table! Sample Durham’s best local produce and culinary art today!

We’ve shared some of our other snapshots from the day. We hope they whet your appetite!
